An article in the Daily Mail today has revealed that Botox injections may be responsible for giving you wrinkles.
Botox has been embraced by users for the past 15 years, many thousands of women (and Men) have used it to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Experts have realised that by freezing some facial muscles that other muscles can be brought into play.
Dr David Becker, an assistant professor or dermatology at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York has observed that ‘Wrinkles caused by untreated muscles of facial expression can become more prominent’. If a particular set of muscles are paralysed, it could lead to other neighbouring muscle groups to be recruited by the body to reproduce the activity being blocked by the treatment. This meas that areas adjacent to the treated areas could become more prominent.
In laymans terms – your face will still find a way to make the same expressions by using different areas than when you have had botox, which leads to lines and wrinkles appearing.
Bunny Lines
The most common sign of this is ‘bunny lines’ – these are the lines that form across the bridge of the nose. It is a common giveaway in someone with a really smooth forehead that shows that they have had botox treatments.
Bunny lines can also be caused by twitching your nose hence the ‘bunny’ comparison.
Dr Nick Lowe of the Cranley Clinic in London says that if you inject someones forehead with botox, the muscles at the side of the face and around the bridge of the nose often act a bit more strongly, this is what causes the bunny lines across the nose.
