What Is The Fast Diet

 Now You Can Eat What You Like (Most Of The Time)

Virtually every month we are told about the latest, newest or alternative way to lose weight, the newspapers write about them, TV shows talk about them and you can guarantee that one or two celebrities will come forward claiming just how effective this particular plan or system has been for them.

We all know that the only truly effective way to lose weight is to reduce our intake of food.


Added to this, we need to try and increase the amount of exercise that we do and we mustnever forget the golden rule – never ever skip a meal.

5:2 Fasting

Medical Journalist Michael Mosley has with the help of his co-author Mimi Spencer hit the headlines recently with the release of his new weight loss plan, Called 5:2 Fasting;

Its quite simple, it uses the concept of intermittent fasting to help you lose weight – nothing drastic here, just a slow, gentle and safe 1-2 lb’s or so a week.

How Does The Fast Diet Work.

The concept is simple, you simply eat (sensibly) as usual for 5 days of a week and then fast for two days. Now this does not mean that you don not eat for two days; the plan requires you to reduce the calorie intake to 25% of your normal intake. For a women this means eating 500 calories on the fasting day, men can eat a little bit more – around 600 -650 calories.

The concept works on the body’s natural ability to burn fat, when calories are reduced, the body’s natural reaction is to increase metabolism, this speeds the natural fat burning processes, drawing on any stored fats for additional energy


Should I Fast Two Days Running

It does not matter and is purely down to personal preference -An ideal timescale as example would be to fast on a Monday and a Thursday, but the rule is to do what suits you best.

The 5:2 fast diet will work, but it does depend on you eating sensibly on the non fasting days, and keeping to your recommended calorie intake (2000 calories for a woman and 2500 for a man)
